Department Overview

The Animal Care Business Office (ACBO) is dedicated to providing essential administrative and operational assistance for the Animal Care Program (ACP). Under the guidance of the Campus Attending Veterinarian, the ACP ensures the responsible use and care of animals involved in research and educational activities.

The ACP is divided into three key units:
1. Teaching and Research Animal Care Services (TRACS) - the primary unit overseeing daily animal care for educational and research purposes.
2. Campus Veterinary Services (CVS) - responsible for delivering humane veterinary care to all research and teaching animals.
3. Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) - tasked with reviewing animal use protocols, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing oversight of training programs.

Role Summary

In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Animal Care Business Office Manager, handling critical functions related to complex purchasing and accounting for the majority of laboratory animals acquired for research and educational purposes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and processing animal transfers, imports, and exports.
  • Managing facility maintenance requests and overseeing access management.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for customers and visitors of the Animal Care Business Office.
  • Providing business and administrative support across the three units of the Animal Care Program as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing while using a computer.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • This position is essential and may require presence on campus during operational challenges.
  • Fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.
  • Occasional varied lunch hours and overtime may be required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for travel to various offices.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to animal welfare standards and confidentiality.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in purchasing, accounts payable, and related accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in automated accounting systems for processing financial transactions.
  • High accuracy in data entry across various data types.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills for diverse interactions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply university policies and procedures.

Preferred:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills for handling multiple projects.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying issues and implementing solutions.
  • Familiarity with UC Davis automated systems and university policies.
  • Knowledge of campus resources and administrative contacts.
