Job Title: Administrative Assistant 2 - Licensing Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to join our regulatory department as a Licensing Coordinator (Administrative Assistant 2) within our Professional Licensing Division at our central office in Des Moines, Iowa.

About the Role:

This is a fast-paced position that requires a motivated, organized, and detail-focused individual with a proven track record of completing tasks on a strict deadline. The successful candidate will serve as a trainer and knowledge expert for all things licensing, working closely with the Licensing Supervisor to ensure the efficient processing of applications and issuance of licenses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and process applications for professional licensure
  • Serve as the point of contact and expert for licensure requirements
  • Become proficient with the licensing database
  • Conduct business in a professional, courteous, and approachable manner
  • Prepare correspondence and respond to varied and detailed requests
  • Provide training to staff on licensure best practices in accordance with Administrative Rule and Iowa Code
  • Create standard operating procedures for issuance of licenses for assigned licensing professions
  • Provide accurate and timely responses about license requirements, application status, and reasons for regulations
  • Exercise independent judgment in making decisions in accordance with policies, laws, or regulations controlling the agency's operations
  • Assist visitors and callers with technical help on licensing applications
  • Organize and oversee records of a confidential, complex, or otherwise sensitive nature

Requirements:

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time administrative support or technical support work
  • A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as an Administrative Assistant 1
