Oncology Infusion Nurse - Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Position Overview:
The Oncology Infusion Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring a supportive and efficient environment for patients undergoing infusion therapy. This position requires a dedicated professional who can provide high-quality care to patients with cancer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Medication Administration: Administer blood products, medications, chemotherapeutic agents, biotherapy agents, analgesics, and hematopoietic growth factors to patients, adhering to age-specific guidelines and standards.
  • Patient Support: Assist physicians with clinical and laboratory procedures, prepare laboratory specimens, and provide patient education to enhance understanding of treatment processes.
  • Clinical Competence: Demonstrate proficiency in both simple and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including venipuncture and care of vascular access devices.
  • Documentation: Accurately document interventions and outcomes in the medical record to ensure continuity of care.
  • Care Coordination: Facilitate transitions of care for patients to home care, palliative care, or hospice services in collaboration with the cancer care team.
  • Patient Communication: Manage patient inquiries and triage calls, assessing clinical issues and developing appropriate nursing diagnoses and care plans.
  • Comfort Optimization: Enhance the physical and emotional comfort of patients and families by providing necessary resources and referrals.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with medical assistants, nurse practitioners, and physicians to prioritize patient needs and ensure comprehensive care.
  • Continuity of Care: Provide direct patient care by conducting thorough assessments and formulating care plans based on individual patient histories.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a professional demeanor, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Experience in oncology or infusion nursing is preferred, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and establish effective working relationships with diverse individuals.

Licensure and Certification:
  • BSN required
  • Valid RN license
  • OCN certification preferred
  • BLS certification required

Educational Requirements:
Two years of experience in oncology or infusion nursing is preferred. Candidates must also comply with employment conditions regarding vaccinations and health protocols.
