Position Overview:
The Oncology Infusion Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring a supportive and efficient environment for patients undergoing treatment. This position requires a commitment to delivering high-quality care to individuals diagnosed with cancer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Administration: Administer blood products, medications, chemotherapy, biotherapy agents, analgesics, and hematopoietic growth factors in accordance with established protocols and age-specific guidelines.
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patient compliance with treatment plans, including medications and appointments.
- Clinical Procedures: Demonstrate proficiency in performing both simple and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as venipuncture and IV fluid administration.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of interventions and patient outcomes in the medical documentation system.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with the cancer care team to facilitate transitions in patient care, including home care and hospice services.
- Patient Communication: Manage patient inquiries and triage calls, providing necessary clinical guidance and support.
- Comfort Optimization: Enhance the physical and emotional well-being of patients and their families by offering resources and referrals.
- Continuity of Care: Ensure seamless communication between outpatient and inpatient services during patient admissions and discharges.
- Patient Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and families regarding treatment plans and potential side effects.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a valid nursing license.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in oncology or infusion nursing is preferred.
