Job Summary:

This position is for a Mechanical Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for mechanical matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques and criteria will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Support the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Coordinate work and collaborate within discipline and with other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards.
  • Provide assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
  • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products. Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.

Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) from an ABET accredited university/college and a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Engineering in Training certification in the US, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • (Preferred Qualification) - Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
