Position Overview

Salary: $19.23 per hour

Make a significant impact in the lives of older adults in New York City, their families, and the broader community. For over six decades, PSS has been dedicated to essential services through its various centers and programs, positively influencing the lives of over 1,000 individuals daily. As a Program Aide at one of our senior centers, your primary responsibilities will include serving meals to center members, adhering to food safety protocols, and assisting in activities that promote health, engagement, and social connection among our members. This role is vital for the overall wellness of our participants.

This is a non-exempt role that reports directly to the Kitchen Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve nutritious meals to center members.
  • Prepare food items for service.
  • Adhere to safety standards for food handling and distribution.
  • Develop and display menus.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
  • Support the Center Program Coordinator in organizing activities.
  • Engage actively with members.
  • Facilitate group workshops and discussions.
  • Encourage participation in center events.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Preferred experience working with older adults.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Physical capability to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy items (25-60 lbs).
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Required physical stamina to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
