The VCU Health - MCV Physicians is seeking a dynamic leader for the Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine Division.

Unit Mission:

The Pediatric Pulmonology Clinic is a premier specialty group in Central Virginia, focused on the comprehensive evaluation and management of pediatric pulmonary disorders. As the only accredited cystic fibrosis center and sleep lab in the area, our specialists deliver thorough clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing care for children facing chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma and cystic fibrosis. Our commitment extends to training medical students and residents, ensuring collaboration with primary care providers to address the ongoing health needs of our patients.

Position Overview:

We are conducting a national search for a Chief to lead the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. The ideal candidate will be a physician scientist or clinician-educator at the Associate or full Professor level. This role involves overseeing a team of 8 physician pulmonologists and sleep medicine specialists, with a focus on mentorship, career development, and the establishment of outreach programs. The successful candidate will also sustain a nationally recognized research initiative and promote excellence in both teaching and clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: The faculty member will engage in educational responsibilities within Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, providing mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Research: The faculty member is expected to secure funding from external sources, such as NIH or equivalent foundations, and develop a robust research portfolio that enhances departmental expertise.
  • Service: The faculty member will participate in departmental committees and contribute to professional service through activities like journal reviews and conference presentations.
  • Clinical: The faculty member will act as a leader and role model in Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine.
  • Administrative: The faculty member will undertake leadership and administrative responsibilities associated with the role of Division Chair.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD/DO degree
  • Completed residency in Pediatrics
  • Fellowship training in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine
  • Eligibility for Virginia medical licensure
  • Board certification in Pediatric Pulmonology
  • Experience in fostering a diverse academic environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Proven track record of securing external funding
  • Administrative experience in an academic setting
  • Experience mentoring junior faculty and trainees
