Unit Mission:
The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at VCU Health is focused on establishing a premier academic unit that excels in clinical practice, education, and research across various disciplines.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified individual for the role of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor within our Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Division. The selected candidate will engage in a structured development of an academic career in pediatric pulmonary medicine, emphasizing outstanding clinical care and educational opportunities, with research prospects available based on individual qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Duties: The faculty member will deliver clinical services in pediatric pulmonary and/or sleep medicine, catering to both outpatient and inpatient populations. Weekend work and on-call duties will be required as necessary.
- Educational Role: The faculty member will take on teaching responsibilities in Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, providing guidance and mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Research Engagement: While research initiatives are encouraged, they are not mandatory; support for research activities will be contingent upon prior achievements and potential.
- Service Contributions: The faculty member will participate in departmental or School of Medicine committees as appropriate and engage in professional activities within their field, such as peer review and conference organization.
Essential Qualifications:
- Board certification or eligibility in Pediatric Pulmonology.
- Experience in providing clinical care for patients from birth to 21 years of age.
- Background in educating medical trainees and other healthcare professionals.
- Proven commitment to fostering a diverse environment among faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training and Board Certification in Sleep Medicine.
- Prior experience in an academic medical institution.
- Research interests and/or external funding experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching capabilities.
