Pediatric Pulmonology Specialist, Department of Pediatrics

VCU Health - MCV Physicians is seeking a dedicated Pediatric Pulmonology Specialist to enhance our Pediatric care team.

Unit Mission:

The Pediatric Pulmonology Clinic within the VCU Department of Pediatrics stands as the sole specialty group in Central Virginia focused on the assessment and ongoing management of pediatric pulmonary conditions. This includes being the only accredited center for cystic fibrosis and sleep disorders in the area. Our specialists conduct comprehensive clinical evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and continuous care for pediatric patients facing chronic respiratory issues such as asthma and cystic fibrosis. Given the complexity of pulmonary care, our team collaborates closely with primary care physicians to address the daily health requirements of these patients, while also engaging in community partnerships aimed at improving care and education for prevalent pulmonary conditions.

Position Overview:

The division of Pediatric Pulmonology is looking to fill an open rank faculty position to deliver clinical care and support the educational and research objectives of the division. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Mentorship: Guiding and developing the careers of division members.
  • Outreach Programs: Establishing successful regional initiatives.
  • Research: Maintaining a nationally recognized research agenda.
  • Teaching Excellence: Promoting a culture of high standards in education and clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching: The faculty member will be responsible for educating in the field of Pediatric Pulmonology, providing mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows as applicable.

Research: The faculty member should possess a well-established research portfolio, demonstrating interdisciplinary applications and external funding to enhance the department's expertise.

Service: Participation in departmental or School of Medicine committees and professional activities within the field, such as serving as a reviewer or conference organizer.

Clinical Duties: The faculty member will act as a Pulmonary physician within the Department of Pediatrics, including weekend work and on-call responsibilities as needed.

Administrative Duties: The faculty member will also undertake administrative responsibilities related to this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Board certification or eligibility in Pediatric Pulmonology.
  • Experience in clinical care for patients from birth to 21 years of age.
  • Experience in educating medical trainees and staff.
  • Experience in research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse environment within faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an academic medical setting.
  • Research focus with external funding.
  • Proven teaching excellence.
