Dignity Health Advanced Imaging, a division of Dignity Health Medical Foundation, offers leading-edge diagnostic imaging services at multiple locations in the greater Sacramento and Woodland regions. Our dedicated team of 160 professionals partners with specialty-trained and board-certified radiologists to ensure high-quality care for our patients, performing numerous examinations annually with a focus on compassionate service and timely delivery.

Role Summary:

The Medical Dosimetrist plays a crucial role within the radiation oncology team, possessing in-depth knowledge of radiation treatment technologies and their clinical applications. This position requires expertise in developing radiation dose distributions and calculations in collaboration with medical physicists and radiation oncologists.

Occasional travel to other facilities within the Greater Sacramento Area may be required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating treatment plans utilizing computer software and manual calculations to deliver prescribed radiation doses and field placement techniques as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Evaluating dose-limiting structures during treatment plan design and documenting doses in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's directives.
  • Coordinating treatment simulations and tumor localization using specialized equipment such as CT, MRI, and PET for radiation oncology planning.
  • Overseeing the planning and fabrication of custom devices, including compensation filters, shields, and other beam-modifying tools.
  • Supervising the production of molds, casts, and immobilization devices.
  • Guiding therapy staff in executing treatment plans, ensuring proper use of immobilization devices and other treatment variables.
  • Conducting calculations to ensure accurate delivery of prescribed doses, documenting all relevant information in patient records, and verifying the accuracy of calculations as per protocols established by the Medical Physicist.
  • Providing technical support to the Medical Physicist in areas such as radiation safety, machine calibrations, and quality assurance of radiation oncology equipment.
  • Assisting in brachytherapy procedures and calculating dose distributions for these treatments.
  • Educating students and residents on practical aspects of medical dosimetry as assigned.
  • Engaging in clinical research to develop and implement innovative techniques.
  • Participating in ongoing education related to current treatment planning methodologies and advancements in medical dosimetry.
  • Performing routine duties independently while consulting with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as necessary.
  • Operating and conducting quality assurance on treatment planning systems under the guidance of the Medical Physicist.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of formal training in medical dosimetry from a JRCERT accredited program, with eligibility to sit for medical dosimetry boards.
  • Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) within one year of employment.
  • Ability to comprehend the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop computerized treatment plans and effectively communicate these to the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapist.
  • Capability to perform routine tasks independently while consulting with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as needed.
  • Proficiency in operating and conducting quality assurance on treatment planning systems under the direction of the Medical Physicist.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety regulations and current guidelines from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Ability to interpret and execute treatment plans as outlined in relevant protocols.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus, along with the ability to visualize three-dimensional concepts to facilitate treatment planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist (CMD).

Compensation

Pay range: $90.64 per hour.
