In this role, under the guidance of supervisory staff and in collaboration with the healthcare team and associated departments, the Patient Access Coordinator is tasked with assisting patients in navigating pediatric cardiology services at UCM. This position is essential in ensuring that patients and their families receive timely access to necessary services with a focus on compassion and efficiency. The coordinator will manage the organization of services and appointments for all new patients across various providers and departments leading up to their initial consultation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the scheduling of initial appointments for new psychology patients with the appropriate healthcare provider, coordinating complex joint appointments and referrals for necessary lab tests and imaging procedures prior to the first visit in collaboration with program liaisons and providers.

  • Secure patient authorization for medical records and, in conjunction with the New Patient Associates, confirm that all essential medical documentation, pathology slides, and specimens are received prior to the initial visit. Work with the pre-visit team to secure prior insurance authorizations and maintain communication with patients and caregivers throughout the process.
  • Assist patients facing socioeconomic challenges by connecting them with appropriate services, including financial assistance, social work, and transportation.
  • Foster relationships and collaborate effectively with internal physicians, nursing staff, and other hospital personnel involved in the care of patients, as well as with members of the referring community.
  • Provide information regarding relevant clinical trials and disease diagnosis through various resources. Maintain statistics and generate reports for management to identify new patient needs, trends, referral patterns, access barriers, and track outcomes related to the Support Coordinator role, ensuring continuous service improvement.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a high-volume healthcare setting.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
