By optimizing access to resources and coordinating efforts to secure new funding, the ORI cultivates an interdisciplinary research culture that drives innovation.

Moreover, the ORI translates research outcomes through intellectual property licensing, resource leveraging, and the establishment of start-up ventures, thereby enhancing the societal and economic impact of its work.

This position is situated within the Integrated Support Service Center (ISSC), which delivers financial, administrative, and proposal support to the ORI's centers, institutes, and Core Research Facilities, ensuring efficient operations and minimizing redundancy.

Essential Job Duties:

The primary objective of the Service Center Financial Analyst is to deliver comprehensive financial assistance. This role acts as the main contact for all financial activities related to University Core Facilities and is integral to the ISSC. The analyst collaborates with Core Research Facility Directors and staff to oversee daily business functions, encompassing both financial and administrative responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial Support and Reporting:
    • Provide extensive financial assistance, including the generation of budget and usage reports.
    • Develop and maintain monthly financial reports, facilitating procurement of equipment and supplies.
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and quarterly reconciliations across all funding sources for Core Facilities.
  • Customer Service and Collaboration:
    • Exhibit a strong commitment to exceptional customer service, ensuring high availability and responsiveness to Core Facilities Directors, staff, and clients.
    • Engage with clients to identify and implement innovative solutions that align with business objectives, demonstrating adaptability and a positive approach.
  • Knowledge and Compliance:
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of NC State, federal, and state accounting regulations, ensuring adherence to best practices.
    • Guarantee compliance with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Decision Support and Analysis:
    • Conduct regular internal audits of transactions and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Analyze service center rates and administrative fees, providing recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
    • Assist in the management and forecasting of financial activities related to various funding sources, ensuring sustainability and alignment with strategic goals.
    • Oversee revenue sharing and multi-year financial projections, developing comprehensive financial reports to aid in long-term planning.
  • Transactional and Monitoring Tasks:
    • Support internal and external billing processes for Core Facilities, addressing complex issues as they arise.
    • Proactively track expenditures to ensure optimal resource utilization.
    • Manage transactions and perform analyses using the MENDIX platform.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the annual inventory and asset management processes.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison for Core Facilities and provide backup support for other ISSC team members.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and contribute to the development of service center business plans.
  • Collaborate with university departments to effectively utilize available resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be from accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications:


• Proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Word, with a strong ability to utilize desktop and web-based productivity tools. Must demonstrate exceptional skills in numerical data management and documentation in a digital office environment.

• Strong organizational and communication skills: Must provide regular updates to clients and colleagues without prompting.

• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet critical deadlines and maintain workflow efficiency. Must effectively monitor calendar deadlines and ensure timely follow-ups.

• Capable of interpreting financial guidelines and advising others on processes and operations in various situations.

• Must be adaptable to best practices within the ISSC.

  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with Capital Asset Management/Inventory Systems.
