Job Summary

GAI Consultants is seeking an experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to provide leadership and direction to the civil discipline. The successful candidate will be responsible for delegating tasks to engineering and drafting staff, preparing and checking calculations, developing drawings, and preparing deliverables. This role requires coordination with the Engineering Manager, Project Manager, and other discipline leads within GAI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Staff management duties include planning, mentoring, and coaching junior-level engineering and drafting staff.
  • Task management duties include staff planning, budget and schedule management, scope change management, quality assurance and peer reviews, report writing, staff mentorship, and client coordination.
  • Proposal preparation, including scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Drafting site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
  • Collaborating with other engineering leads for resource and schedule management, performance of QA/QC peer reviews, and staff mentorship.
  • Conducting field condition assessments independently.
  • Performing bid and construction phase services, including responding to bidder questions, responding to Contractor Requests for Information, and submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.
  • Leading projects managed by other engineering leads.
  • Ability to work independently and direct/oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis.
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate a collaborative environment with other engineering disciplines.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, with knowledge of NPDES Permitting requirements and construction practices.
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, HY-8, Pondpack, Hydraflow, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and other related engineering software.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, with reciprocity in multiple states.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
