Day Shift Overview:

The Environmental Services Aide is responsible for upholding the cleanliness and safety of the Health System environment by executing various cleaning tasks in alignment with Regulatory Agency Standards, Infection Control protocols, and the policies of the Hospital and Department.

This role includes fulfilling mandatory training requirements through computer-based modules. The Aide will carry out all essential responsibilities and demonstrate the necessary competencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Education:
A High School diploma or GED is preferred. Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required, along with basic math skills.

Experience:
A minimum of three months of experience in customer service or cleaning is preferred.

Certification/Licensure:
Not required.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Environmental Services Aide performs a range of general cleaning duties to maintain areas such as patient towers, public spaces, examination rooms, and offices.

Key responsibilities include:

- Cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces
- Spot cleaning carpets and upholstery
- Managing spills
- Changing linens and making beds
- Operating vacuum cleaning equipment
- Disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
- Reporting necessary equipment repairs and unsafe conditions
- Exhibiting a positive attitude that fosters a culture of trust, respect, and teamwork.

The Aide is expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, and Values of SJMH.

It is crucial to perform job duties safely to ensure personal safety and that of colleagues, reporting any preventable hazards or unsafe practices to management immediately.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
- Follow both written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers
- Maintain focus and attention to detail
- Prioritize tasks and organize work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Walk and stand for approximately 90% of the work time
- Frequently squat, kneel, and lift
- Occasionally bend and twist
- Lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance
- Utilize safe body mechanics.
