The Quaker School at Horsham (TQS) is dedicated to employing evidence-based methodologies delivered by empathetic professionals to empower each student facing complex challenges to thrive and attain significant personal, social, and academic achievements. Our nurturing community fosters trusting relationships among students, parents, therapists, faculty, and staff.

The Sassafras Program operates on the belief that students must cultivate positive relationships, experience affirmative emotions, and develop a sense of autonomy and purpose to facilitate learning. It provides students with a consistent framework and a nurturing atmosphere, with academic involvement customized to address each child's unique requirements. Participants in the Sassafras program often struggle with managing externalized behaviors that can lead to social, emotional, and academic difficulties in a mainstream educational environment. The program's objective is to diminish the overall intensity, frequency, and duration of behaviors such as aggression, property damage, elopement, and inappropriate language.

We also prioritize the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our faculty and staff. We create opportunities for camaraderie, goodwill, and experiences that foster positive morale. We celebrate the numerous accomplishments of our school community and recognize personal and professional milestones within our faculty and staff.

  • Under the guidance of the Sassafras Director, provide direct assistance for the academic and behavioral requirements of students with ASD and other intricate challenges.
  • Deliver assigned courses within a classroom environment of 6-8 students: crafting lesson plans, managing student behavior, addressing students' emotional and academic needs, evaluating learning profiles, and establishing class activities, routines, and procedures to optimize learning for all students.
  • Utilize special education strategies and techniques during instruction to enhance language, cognition, and memory development, employing diverse methods such as project-based learning, multi-sensory learning, differentiated instruction, and repetition to reinforce learning and cater to students' varying needs and interests.
  • Set clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students and families through our school learning management system.
  • Evaluate the academic and social progress of students, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records, including attendance, checklists, progress monitoring data, rating forms, and other necessary documentation. Use this information to tailor instruction.
  • Regularly administer subject-specific assessments to gauge student competency levels and/or develop individualized learning plans, maintaining complete, accurate, and timely records of all assessments.
  • Review behavior plans and other pertinent instructional materials created by the behavior team for students to ensure consistent implementation and appropriate monitoring of outcomes.
  • Collaborate, implement, and uphold evidence-based practices and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs).
  • Facilitate integrated ABA-inspired approaches with a focus on positive reinforcement that supports behavior reduction outcomes.
  • Implement behavioral strategies for acquiring replacement skills and minimizing problematic behaviors.
  • Maintain a high level of collaboration with classroom staff and the Behavior Support Team.
  • Engage in daily and weekly family communications, as outlined by school guidelines.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary for students, including the use of Safety-CARE techniques for physical restraint as a last resort.
  • Exemplify compassionate and ethical conduct across all settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, time management, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities are essential.

Requirements: A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's in Special Education is preferred.

Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000.00 per year.
