Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist is responsible for maintaining a high level of productivity while managing multiple laboratory processes effectively. This role involves timely completion of tasks and proper handling of specimens, ensuring accurate identification and suitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilizes appropriate accessioning procedures and recognizes discrepancies in patient orders.
  • Resolves and reports issues as necessary, performing and documenting instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Replenishes reagents and supplies in accordance with established protocols.
  • Adheres to established reporting procedures, whether computerized, verbal, or manual.
  • Navigates various computer applications essential for job functionality.
  • Assists in training and orienting new staff members.
  • Engages in educational activities to stay current in the field.
  • Completes initial and ongoing competency assessments as required.

This role is typically performed in a clinical setting, where the individual is accountable for fulfilling all job-specific responsibilities and adhering to organizational policies and procedures. Compensation and Benefits

Qualified applicants may be eligible for a $12,500 sign-on bonus. This position requires a minimum of four years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist, with ASCP certification preferred but not mandatory. The work schedule is from 3 PM to 11:30 PM, with eligibility for shift differentials and overtime.

As part of the laboratory team, you will work across various areas, enhancing your skills in blood bank, toxicology, urinalysis, chemistry, hematology, and more. You will perform both automated and manual testing in a collaborative environment, with opportunities to mentor and train colleagues.

With a high volume of specimens processed, you will encounter abnormal specimens regularly while conducting essential routine tests, including hemoglobin A1C, lipid panels, kidney function tests, drug screenings, and volatile substances.

Additionally, you will work with cutting-edge automated testing equipment, supporting quality control measures, troubleshooting instruments, and verifying results on front-end processing equipment. There will also be opportunities to learn flow cytometry.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution and successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology program, or
  • A Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science along with ASCP categorical certification, or
  • A Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and at least two years of experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
