Patient Service Representative

Position Overview:
This role is designed to deliver a variety of support and guest services, including the management of patient meal choices and the maintenance of clinical nutrition records. The individual in this position is accountable for providing prompt, precise, and courteous service while addressing customer inquiries, acting as a nutrition liaison to enhance patient satisfaction. The role may involve substituting for other positions as needed and is performed with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School diploma or GED is preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a public-facing role is preferred.
- Exhibits exceptional verbal communication skills both in person and over the phone, along with strong customer service abilities.
- Capable of reading and writing, as well as following both verbal and written instructions.
- Possesses basic computer skills, including the ability to operate a keyboard and mouse, and to access, retrieve, and input information into an electronic database.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Recognizes situations that may indicate a breach of foodservice or room service policies and reports them to management.
- Responds to patient requests for personal or nursing care by notifying the appropriate staff.
- Holds knowledge and clinical skills necessary for nutrition responsibilities, preferably with an understanding of dietary restrictions.
- Demonstrates clear communication skills in English.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document and update current dietary orders, investigating and resolving any discrepancies or unusual requests promptly.
- Process changes to diet orders in the electronic database and with patient menu selections.
- Welcome patients and assist them with their menu selections, either in person or via phone, ensuring efficient input of meal choices according to dietary needs.
- Print and review daily Admission, Discharge, Transfer (ADT) reports.
- Embody the Memorial Health System's Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency, supporting our mission and values.
- Prepare and distribute menus to patients requiring assistance.
- Communicate daily with Registered Dietitians regarding patient dietary information, nutritional status, and understanding of food choices.
- Utilize computer systems to retrieve and update patient information and input menu selections accurately.
- Monitor and update patient menus and food selections in accordance with dietary orders.
- Oversee telephone and computer communications for diet changes, new admissions, room service trays, snacks, and nourishment requests.
- Engage directly with nursing staff and unit secretaries regarding any changes or issues with patient orders.
- Accurately input tube feeding orders.
- Conduct a physical inventory of nourishment areas in patient care areas and maintain stock at par levels.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
