Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative to join our team at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration process for patients, while also providing exceptional customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate and obtain demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information from patients and/or their representatives.
  • Enter accurate and complete patient information into the patient accounting system.
  • Collect and process patient signatures on required forms, including ID cards, insurance cards, and consent to treatment.
  • Prepare patient estimates and inform patients of their liabilities, collecting co-payments, co-insurances, deductibles, deposits, and outstanding balances.
  • Provide escort and directional support to patients, family members, and visitors.
  • Enhance the patient experience through face-to-face interactions and ensure that all patient interactions are conducted in a professional and courteous manner.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required; at minimum six months post-high school education preferred.
  • Past work experience of at least 1 year within a healthcare provider and/or payer environment, performing patient access and/or customer services activities preferred.
  • Annual assessment of competency completed every year.
  • Must be able to read, write, and/or speak English.
  • Computer/PC experience/skills required; typing (40 words per minute) or data entry keystrokes per minute preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology desired.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and interpersonal skills necessary in dealing with internal and external customers.
