Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative to join our team at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration process for patients, while providing exceptional customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate and obtain demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information from patients, family members, and guarantors, and enter this information into the patient accounting system.
  • Prepare patient estimates and inform patients/guarantors of their liabilities, collecting appropriate patient payments, including co-payments, co-insurances, deductibles, deposits, and outstanding balances at the point of check-in.
  • Obtain signed physician orders for all tests and procedures from physicians/offices.
  • Prepare identification bracelets and patient ID labels, and obtain/scans patient/guarantor signatures on required forms.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required; at least six months post-high school education preferred.
  • Past work experience of at least one year within a healthcare provider and/or payer environment, performing patient access and/or customer services activities preferred.
  • Annual assessment of competency completed every year.
  • Must be able to read, write, and/or speak English.
  • Computer/PC experience/skills required; typing (40 words per minute) or data entry keystrokes per minute preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology desired.
