Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team at the University of Iowa. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive timely and efficient access to healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule patient appointments for multiple outpatient clinics, ensuring that patients are scheduled to the right department and that all necessary preparatory tests and records are obtained.
  • Coordinate with patients to inform them of their visit-specific preparatory instructions and ensure that they are notified about their upcoming appointments via their preferred communication method.
  • Use independent judgment to determine how to assist patient requests outside of the scope of scheduling, while upholding the department's best practices, quality, and professionalism standards.
  • Anticipate the needs of patients and serve as a patient advocate, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring that patients feel valued and respected.
  • Assist and problem-solve any scheduling issues that arise, using effective communication and conflict resolution skills to resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically 6 months to 1 year of administrative experience, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer spreadsheet and database applications, with experience with hospital operations and/or ambulatory clinic operations a plus.
