Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our team at MercyOne. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration process for patients, while providing exceptional customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate and obtain demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information from patients, family members, and guarantors, and enter this information into our patient accounting system.
  • Prepare patient estimates and inform patients/guarantors of their liabilities, collecting appropriate patient payments, including co-payments, co-insurances, deductibles, deposits, and outstanding balances at the point of check-in.
  • Obtain signed physician orders for all tests and procedures from physicians/offices.
  • Prepare identification bracelets and patient ID labels, and obtain/scans patient/guarantor signatures on required forms, including ID cards, insurance cards, consent to treatment, assignment of benefits, release of information, waivers, etc.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required; at minimum six months post-high school education preferred.
  • Past work experience of at least 1 year within a healthcare provider and/or payer environment, performing patient access and/or customer services activities preferred.
  • Annual assessment of competency completed every year.
  • Must be able to read, write, and/or speak English.
  • Computer/PC experience/skills required.
  • Typing (40 words per minute) or data entry (50-60 keystrokes per minute) preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology desired.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and interpersonal skills necessary in dealing with internal and external customers.
