Position Overview:

This role is a professional sales position focused on expanding new business within the meat and seafood sectors, with the aim of meeting assigned business objectives while enhancing customer satisfaction. This will be achieved through maintaining industry and category-specific certification status and direct selling of products to clients. Specialists will prioritize their time, targets, and collaborative selling efforts based on market insights and data analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement targeted meat and seafood sales strategies to meet regional and individual annual business objectives, driving profitable sales growth and market penetration across categories and specialty segments.
  • Assess the needs of clients and prospects to curate a product assortment that provides solutions and aids in achieving business goals.
  • Utilize data analytics to prioritize meat and seafood opportunities effectively.
  • Proactively seek, qualify, and assist in converting top prospects to Sysco.
  • Stay informed about market trends, product innovations, and competitor offerings; share insights with clients as part of value-added services.
  • Monitor activities and outcomes, collaborate on opportunities, and champion the team selling process through the use of Salesforce (Sysco's CRM tool).
  • Utilize product sampling strategically to close sales.
  • Provide feedback to specialty companies and merchandising on product quality, integrity, assortment, customer satisfaction, perceived value, and competition.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, chefs, and sales team members.
  • Support the execution of prioritized sales strategies through direct engagement with clients and prospects at Sysco events (e.g., food shows, industry gatherings).

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED and 3+ years of sales experience in a retail, broker, wholesale, or distribution environment (with deep technical expertise in meat and seafood categories).
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent educational level.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in center-of-the-plate (meat and seafood) knowledge and trends is essential.
  • (Internal Certification & External Certification may be required).
  • Analytical problem-solving skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports and deriving insights from data.
  • Ability to articulate information in terms of profit and loss, food cost, and expense ratios.
  • Strong financial acumen and capability to plan and execute business strategies effectively.
  • Adaptable; embraces change and is open to new ideas.
  • Proven track record in consultative selling, networking, and negotiations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence a variety of key stakeholders.
  • Experience in building trust with prospective clients and securing new business.
  • Strong business and restaurant operations knowledge to manage sophisticated clients.
  • Ability to learn and utilize proprietary CRM tools for planning and forecasting sales growth.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule for success.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and produce high-quality results (accuracy and thoroughness in deliverables).
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Understanding of marketing principles, product lines, ordering procedures, and Sysco's credit terms.
