Job Title: Assistant Principal, Elementary

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Principal to join our team at Columbus City Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of academic instruction to students in grades PK-5 and supervising the daily operations of the assigned school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of building staff, including hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Assist the Principal in overseeing the delivery of academic instruction, ensuring learning experiences consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals of the building and district.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to staff engaged in student instruction.
  • Monitor student achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives of the building and district.
  • Administer the student behavior and discipline program, counseling and providing guidance to students regarding personal, academic, and behavioral issues.
  • Investigate and address student-related issues and concerns, developing a plan of action to address problem(s).
  • Work cooperatively with intervention assistance teams, guidance counselors, and others to implement initiatives to increase academic success.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute student activities and programs, including student recognition, school dances, and student of the month.
  • Assist in development of the master schedule and class scheduling of students.
  • Monitor school building areas to ensure safe conditions and compliance with Federal, state, and local health and safety standards.
  • Manage the transportation of students to/from school.
  • Perform the duties of Athletic Director/Coordinator, responsible for administering the athletic program for the building.
  • Create and promote a positive and cooperative atmosphere that encourages and motivates students and staff.
  • Support implementation of the building's after-school activities and events.
  • Prepare or oversee completion of required documentation and reports.
  • Promote positive school-community relations by communicating school messages to parents and members of the community.
  • Develop and maintain communication and relationships with all departments and officials of appropriate agencies.
  • Resolve problems, situations, or issues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Perform the duties of Principal in the individual's absence.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of related teaching and administrative experience in a K-12 environment.
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education Principal License or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies related to assigned functions.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with all levels of district staff, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Written and computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents, and reports.
  • Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Skills necessary to provide guidance, train, and review the work of assigned staff.
