Job Title: Principal, Elementary School

Columbus City Schools is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Principal to lead our elementary school. As a key member of our school community, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing the execution of all plans and activities to ensure student learning experiences are consistent with our mission statement and instructional goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the day-to-day activities of building staff, including hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Supervise the delivery of academic instruction to ensure learning experiences are consistent with our mission statement and instructional goals.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to staff engaged in student instruction.
  • Promote improvement of curriculum and instruction within the building.
  • Monitor student achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives.
  • Develop and execute the building's ASIP school improvement plan.
  • Oversee the development of the master schedule and class scheduling of students.
  • Prepare and administer building budget(s) and oversee procurement of books, supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct staff development activities to address instruction needs of the building.
  • Monitor school building areas to ensure safe conditions and compliance with Federal, state, and local health and safety standards.
  • Create and promote a positive and cooperative atmosphere that encourages and motivates students and staff.
  • Monitor building compliance with related regulatory requirements and district standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate personnel, student, and fiscal records.
  • Prepare or oversee completion of required documentation and reports.
  • Establish and maintain communication with central office administrators, building staff, students, parents, and others.
  • Promote positive school-community relations by clearly communicating school messages to parents and members of the community.
  • Participate on district-wide committees as assigned.
  • Ensure departmental staff maintains required credentials and facilitates ongoing development opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices, trends, and new developments in elementary school curriculum, instruction, and building administration.
  • Resolve problems, situations, or issues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of related teaching and administrative experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Minimum (1) year of school-based administrator experience (principal or assistant principal only).
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education Administrator certificate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies related to assigned functions.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills to effectively manage the daily operations and administration of assigned functions.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with all levels of district staff, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
  • Computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents, and reports.
  • Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Mathematical aptitude necessary to develop an annual budget and monitor expenditures.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively serve as a leader and member of a team.
