Position Overview

Role Summary:
The Chief of First Year Academic Programs and Writing Initiatives will lead the Navigator program, a comprehensive student success initiative designed to enhance active learning and career readiness as part of a unified educational experience for all students. This role includes the establishment and execution of a portfolio-driven Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program. The WAC initiative will offer extensive instructional support across the campus for educators who incorporate various writing assignments; collaborate with the General Education Core Curriculum committee to develop, implement, and evaluate a Writing-Enriched Curriculum; and utilize ePortfolios, a key component of the Navigator program.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the comprehensive implementation of the Navigator program.
  2. Facilitate faculty training on curriculum-related activities within the Navigator program and ePortfolio methodologies, in partnership with the Career Services and Teaching and Learning Directors.
  3. Design and execute a robust WAC program.
  4. Manage administrative functions of the Navigator and WAC programs, including course scheduling, updating digital platforms, coordinating promotional efforts with Admissions, and developing assessment strategies for both programs.
  5. Complete all required institutional training.
  6. Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Navigator and WAC initiatives by performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:

  1. Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition; Ph.D. is preferred.
  2. Proven organizational and administrative capabilities with a focus on managing and evaluating efforts to meet the needs of faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred:
  1. In-depth understanding of the interplay between academic, professional, and personal factors in student success.
  2. Experience in research or scholarship related to writing program administration or WAC/WID programming.
  3. Familiarity with contemporary trends and best practices in ePortfolio pedagogy.
  4. Commitment to undergraduate education.
  5. Dedication to ongoing professional development in relevant areas.
