Job Overview

Position Summary:
The Head of First Year Studies and the Writing Curriculum program will manage Navigator, a student success educational initiative designed to enhance integrated active learning and career readiness for all students. This role encompasses the creation and execution of a comprehensive portfolio-based Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program. The WAC initiative will extend instructional support across the campus to educators who assign diverse writing tasks; collaborate with the General Education Core Curriculum committee to develop, implement, and evaluate a Writing-Enriched Curriculum; and utilize ePortfolios, a key feature of the Navigator initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the full implementation of the Navigator initiative.
  2. Provide training for faculty on curricular strategies within the Navigator program and ePortfolio pedagogy, in partnership with the Career Services Director and the Center for Teaching and Learning Director.
  3. Develop and implement a robust WAC program.
  4. Manage administrative functions of the Navigator initiative and WAC, including course scheduling, updating digital platforms, collaborating with Admissions to promote Navigator, and establishing an assessment framework for both Navigator and WAC.
  5. Complete all required institutional training.
  6. Contribute to the overall success of the Navigator initiative and WAC by performing additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition; Ph.D. preferred.
  2. Proven organizational and administrative capabilities with the ability to manage, coordinate, monitor, and assess initiatives to meet the needs of administration, faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Authorization to work in the United States is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the interplay between academic, professional, and personal factors in student success.
  2. Experience in research or scholarship related to writing program administration or WAC/WID programming.
  3. Familiarity with contemporary trends and best practices in ePortfolio pedagogy.
  4. Commitment to undergraduate education.
  5. Dedication to ongoing professional development in relevant areas.
