Job Overview:

LSU Alexandria is looking for a dedicated individual for the role of Custodian 2.

This is a Civil Service Position, and no Civil Service test score is required for consideration.

Position Responsibilities for Custodian 2:

GENERAL:

The Custodian 2 will be part of a team providing cleaning services to Academic and Administrative buildings serving over 2,500 students and 220 faculty and staff.

These services will be conducted in diverse environments, including specialized computer systems, laboratories, libraries, and various technical areas.

The role involves performing more complex tasks that require higher skill levels than those of a Custodian 1.

There will be a high degree of public interaction with Faculty, Staff, and students, as well as frequent contact with the general public through support for educational programs, seminars, and workshops. A solid understanding of campus infrastructure, programs, and services is essential. Participation in special maintenance, safety, and training programs is required.


The quality of service provided is crucial to the university's contractual obligations through private grants and federal programs.

Failure to provide adequate services can significantly impact academic activities and may result in financial losses.

The position requires the ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment based on experience and a comprehensive understanding of campus facilities and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 30% - Clean laboratories, studios, and other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
  • 20% - Manage waste disposal, including recycling and bio-hazardous materials.
  • 15% - Maintain floors through cleaning, stripping, waxing, and polishing.
  • 10% - Operate commercial cleaning equipment for carpets and emergency clean-ups.
  • 10% - Wash windows and maintain the cleanliness of building exteriors.
  • 5% - Secure campus buildings and manage keys.
  • 5% - Set up furniture for events and meetings.
  • 5% - Perform miscellaneous custodial tasks to uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.
