Job Summary and Qualifications
DEPARTMENTAL EXPECTATIONS:
Call responsibilities include 24/7 coverage of all surgical cases. The schedule reflects the workload for surgery. Attendance at all scheduled department meetings and participation in continuing education workshops is required.

MAJOR TASKS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure a safe physical environment and maintain required equipment and supplies.
- Provide direct patient care as delegated.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to all age groups.
- Educate patients and families to promote healthy behaviors, support recovery, and involve them in care decisions.
- Respect patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Notify the circulator nurse of any changes in patients' conditions, problems encountered, and the need for changes in the care plan.
- Maintain supply inventory.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team by:
- Restocking OR rooms as assigned.
- Assisting with all aspects of patient care to ensure quality.
- Participating in unit conferences and quality improvement projects.
- Continually develop skills to maintain competence and expand the role to a high-level OR Technician.
- Identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understand proper reporting mechanisms.
- Recognize adverse drug reactions and demonstrate understanding of proper reporting once identified.
- Use patient care equipment and supplies safely and efficiently, practicing good body mechanics.
- Remove discontinued equipment from surgery rooms and store it properly.
- Report broken or defective equipment promptly.
- Maintain instrument set integrity and handle equipment safely to prevent damage.
- Ensure compliance with policies related to surgical case postings and patient processing.
- Commit to professional growth and set personal goals for job performance satisfaction.
- Attend educational programs related to job performance and self-development.
- Maintain sterile technique according to established policies and procedures.
- Share responsibility for carrying out physicians' orders by reviewing and following preference cards.
- Communicate any patient-reported pain to nursing staff.
- Assist with patient transport between holding, surgery, and PACU.
- Clean and disinfect endoscopes according to written procedures.
- Recognize signs and symptoms of complications and report them immediately.
- Demonstrate accountability for assigned duties, including case preparation, set-up, and timely turnover.
- Exhibit good interpersonal skills and maintain collegial relationships with all team members.
- Adhere strictly to the attendance policy.
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate / GED.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support or CPR for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
