Compensation - $20.05 per hour

Position Summary

This role oversees the General Merchandise division within a large retail environment, including directing employee activities to achieve the company's financial and marketing goals. The manager coordinates promotional sales efforts with the Home Office and ensures their effective implementation in-store. This position also involves assisting customers by recommending products based on a thorough understanding of current offerings and customer interactions. A deep knowledge of Follett systems and strategies (such as Included Program, Academic Tools, System Integrations, etc.), the industry landscape, and competitive dynamics is essential to successfully execute initiatives, drive profitable sales, and manage expenses. The manager will effectively implement company programs and initiatives while ensuring adherence to corporate policies and procedures. Collaboration with various support teams, including Store Operations, RCMS, AP, HR, and Training, is crucial. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee department staff, including assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and conducting interviews, hiring, and training of new team members.
  • Manage the Home Office-regulated Return-to-Vendor (RTV) receiving and scanning operations.
  • Assist customers in locating products.
  • Handle special order processes and communicate with customers accordingly.
  • Foster a customer service culture that emphasizes solutions-based selling and an outstanding customer experience.
  • Build strategic partnerships with other store personnel and campus organizations for promotional events and assist with off-site sales opportunities.
  • Conduct daily store inspections to ensure adequate stock levels, proper inventory placement, and high customer service standards.
  • Oversee in-store merchandise presentation from the stockroom to the sales floor, acting as the liaison between the store and the planner.
  • Design and maintain displays in accordance with company standards.
  • Implement Home Office-directed pricing adjustments, analyze financial reports, process purchase orders, and approve invoices.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to execute promotional strategies and ensure appropriate inventory levels based on sales trends.
  • May assist with website management and order fulfillment, ensuring price accuracy and product availability online.
  • Address inquiries and concerns from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other customers, resolving escalated issues as needed.
  • May assume managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Store Manager or oversee other departments occasionally.
  • May open or close the store as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in retail; proficiency in computer applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Prior management experience is necessary.
  • General computer literacy is required.
