Position Summary


The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a proficient caregiver, delivering essential support to residents during their scheduled shifts in long-term care settings.

Demonstrates advanced skills as a certified nursing assistant while assisting fellow staff members as required.

Provides resident-focused nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN). Possesses knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.

As a valued member of the nursing team, the NA is accountable for adhering to infection prevention and control policies and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Frequently supports other clinical staff while managing individual responsibilities and leading problem-solving efforts with high accountability.


Responsibilities include assisting with basic health care needs, which may encompass bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.

Assists residents with mobility, including transferring, repositioning, and walking, utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment, and providing range of motion and passive exercises.

Handles tasks related to food preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents, including assistance with meals and snacks, and providing hydration and supplements as necessary.

The NA aids healthcare providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed, documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, and communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse.

Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs, while also providing housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living environments.

Encourages resident participation in wellness and recreational programs and may take part in departmental committees and task forces as required.

May also be responsible for tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation and leading restorative initiatives.


Qualifications
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not mandatory.

Minimum age of 16. Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of Nursing.

Completion of yearly department-specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits is required, with a minimum of 12 hours annually.

Completion of Restorative Nursing training may be required within six months.

For applicable states, certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be necessary.

Depending on facility responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, necessitating a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver's license, along with medical qualifications to perform essential driving functions as per company policy.
