Role Summary


The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a proficient caregiver, delivering resident-centered care during assigned shifts in long-term care settings.

This role requires expert-level experience as a certified nursing assistant, along with the ability to support fellow staff members as necessary.

Responsibilities include providing personalized nursing care and assistance with daily living activities under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN).

Knowledge of age-appropriate care is essential, addressing both the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans.

As a vital member of the nursing team, adherence to infection prevention protocols and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment is expected.

The Senior NA often supports other clinical staff while managing their own responsibilities, leading problem-solving efforts and maintaining accountability.


Key responsibilities include assisting with essential health care needs, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, obtaining vital signs, and offering psychosocial support to residents.

Assistance with mobility, including transferring and repositioning residents using appropriate techniques and equipment, is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities extend to food preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents, and assisting with meals and hydration.

The NA supports nursing staff with procedures as needed, documents resident interactions and care outcomes, and communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse. Additional tasks may include collecting non-invasive specimens, gathering vital signs, and providing housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas. Participation in wellness and recreational programs is encouraged, and involvement in departmental committees may be required.

Completion of Restorative Nursing training may be necessary within a specified timeframe.

Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, with two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the State Board of Nursing is required.

Annual completion of department-specific competency testing and continuing education credits is necessary, with a minimum of 12 hours required each year. All required certifications must be maintained.

For certain states, registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be applicable.

Depending on facility requirements, this role may necessitate a valid driver's license and a motor vehicle report.
