Position Summary


The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a proficient caregiver to residents during scheduled shifts in long-term care settings.

This role requires expert-level experience as a certified nursing assistant, along with the ability to support fellow staff members as necessary.

Responsibilities include delivering resident-centered nursing care and assisting with daily living activities under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).

Knowledge of and adherence to age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in care plans is essential.

As a valued member of the nursing team, the Senior NA is accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and utilizing Personal Protective Equipment appropriately.

This position often involves supporting other clinical staff while maintaining personal responsibilities and demonstrating leadership in problem-solving and accountability.


Key duties include assisting with basic health care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.

Assistance with transferring, repositioning, and ambulation using correct techniques and equipment is also required, along with providing range of motion and passive exercises.

Responsibilities extend to food preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents, and assisting with meals and snacks while providing hydration and supplements as needed.

The NA supports providers and nursing staff with procedures as necessary, documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, and communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse. Additional tasks include collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs, maintaining cleanliness in living areas, and assisting with wellness and recreational programs.

Participation in departmental committees and task forces may also be required, along with responsibilities related to the Restorative Nursing program.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred but not mandatory.

Minimum age of 16 years. Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is preferred.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required from the State Board of Nursing.

Completion of yearly department-specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits is necessary, with a minimum of 12 hours required annually. All department-specific certifications must be maintained.

Completion of Restorative Nursing training may be required within six months.

For applicable states, certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be necessary.

Depending on facility requirements, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, necessitating a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver's license, along with medical qualifications to perform essential driving functions as per company policy.
