Position Summary


The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a skilled caregiver to residents during their scheduled shifts in long-term care settings.

This role requires demonstrated expertise as a certified nursing assistant, along with the ability to support other staff members as necessary.

Responsibilities include delivering resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).

Possesses knowledge of and provides age-appropriate care addressing the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans.

As a vital member of the nursing team, the NA is accountable for adhering to infection prevention protocols and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Frequently assists other clinical staff while managing individual responsibilities, leading in problem-solving and maintaining high standards of accountability.


Provides assistance with essential health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs, while also offering psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.

Assists residents with mobility, including transferring and repositioning, using appropriate techniques and equipment, and provides range of motion and passive exercises.

Engages in food preparation and dining tasks, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents. Aids residents during meals and snacks, providing hydration and nutritional supplements as needed.

The NA supports healthcare providers and nursing staff with procedures as required. Responsible for documenting resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary needs. Communicates any changes in residents' conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and monitors vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean and functional living spaces. Encourages resident participation in wellness and recreational programs, and may engage in departmental committees and task forces as necessary.

May also be tasked with responsibilities related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation, scheduling, and leading restorative activities.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not mandatory.

Minimum age of 16. Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of Nursing.

Completion of annual department-specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits is required, with a minimum of 12 hours annually. Must maintain all required certifications.

Completion of Restorative Nursing training may be required within six months.

For applicable states, certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be necessary.

Depending on facility needs, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a valid driver's license and a motor vehicle report, as well as medical qualifications to perform essential driving functions as per company policy.
