POSITION SUMMARY

Youth Care Worker

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Refugio Unaccompanied Children Shelter aims to provide a nurturing environment for unaccompanied minors.

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time, 40 hours per week, five days a week, year-round.

LOCATION

Tampa, FL

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Center Director.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Youth Care Worker plays a vital role in engaging unaccompanied children (UCs) to address their developmental, cultural, and care needs. This includes overseeing their daily activities, actively participating in program initiatives, supporting individual case plans, and fostering personal skill development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure a secure environment for UCs.
  • Provide consistent supervision to meet safety requirements.
  • Facilitate opportunities for personal and educational development.
  • Encourage independence through skill-building activities.
  • Engage children in educational and social experiences.
  • Promote community involvement and integration.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with fellow Youth Care Workers and supervisors to ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere.
  • Follow the Case Plan as directed by Caseworkers and supervisors.
  • Support culturally relevant activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED; at least one year of experience working with youth; valid driver's license; proficiency in MS Office 365.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

CORE COMPETENCIES: Understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles; proactive conflict resolution skills; team-oriented approach.

  • Occasional travel within the local community for training and meetings may be required.
