Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring the daily care, safety, and well-being of a group of up to 12 youths within a residential program. This role involves delivering trauma-informed care to ensure the security and welfare of the children. Responsibilities include transporting youth in an approved agency vehicle and providing documented Behavioral Health Overlay Services under the guidance of the treatment team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the treatment team to foster therapeutic relationships in both group and individual settings, acting as an advocate for the children.
  • Implement milieu services that promote goal setting, problem-solving, educational activities, and the development of social and employability skills.
  • Assist in mentoring families in transition to adaptive, foster, or reunification placements.
  • Support the Educational Manager in executing educational plans for assigned youth, facilitating academic enrichment and monitoring progress.
  • Coordinate and assist in the delivery of recreational and enrichment activities, including arts and physical activities.
  • Maintain established routines within the cottage program, promoting daily living skills and job placement opportunities.
  • Model appropriate behavior and assist youth in completing daily routines and chores.
  • Provide supervision and monitoring of youth to ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Document and report any unusual or concerning situations to the appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Meet the physical and emotional needs of youth, promoting healthy hygiene and life skills.
  • Encourage family-style dining experiences to enhance social skills and etiquette.
  • Participate in treatment plan reviews and assist youth in achieving their individual goals.
  • Adhere to agency policies regarding confidentiality, reporting, and documentation.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and competencies relevant to the role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED with at least 6 months of experience working with children. Preferred candidates will have an Associate's Degree in a Human Services-related field and one year of experience in a residential setting.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Current first aid and CPR certifications.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with youth and team members.
  • Knowledge of child welfare regulations and reporting procedures.
