Job Overview

The Senior Buyer is accountable for the acquisition of essential materials, components, supplies, and equipment in accordance with established procurement policies and procedures, while ensuring optimal pricing, delivery schedules, and contractual terms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and authorizes purchase requisitions.
  • Identifies prospective vendors and solicits quotations.
  • Assesses and selects suppliers, issues purchase orders, and ensures timely follow-up and expediting as needed.
  • Fosters, assesses, and manages supplier partnerships to achieve material cost efficiency, availability, and inventory targets. Conducts supplier investigations and qualifications.
  • Monitors industry trends, competitor activities, and economic factors to understand their implications for the business.
  • Contributes to production and new product introduction initiatives by participating as a materials resource on product development teams.
  • Performs analysis and rectification of pricing discrepancies in collaboration with accounting teams.
  • Utilizes management insights to ensure targets are met, maximizing profit margins.

Scope of Work

  • Identifies significant challenges and applies problem-solving techniques to creatively address complex situations. Effectively troubleshoots and resolves intricate issues, making informed decisions even under uncertainty.
  • Independently manages tasks with minimal guidance, determining approaches to solutions. Receives technical support only for unusual or complex challenges.
  • May oversee project completion, including planning, assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work progress and accuracy, while evaluating outcomes. Contributes to the professional growth of team members without having hiring or firing authority.

Work Environment

  • Primarily involves sitting in a comfortable setting with frequent opportunities for movement. Occasionally, there may be a need to lift light items.
  • Typically situated in a pleasant indoor environment, with infrequent exposure to unpleasant conditions.
  • Generally requires minimal overnight travel, less than 10% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete any required pre-employment assessments.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, along with 5-8 years of relevant experience; certification may be necessary in certain areas, or a Master’s degree with 3-5 years of experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with computer-based inventory management systems.
