City Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced City Engineer to join our team at the City of North Miami. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and maintenance of city projects, facilities, and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, assign, and supervise the work of engineering matters encompassing all city departments.
- Supervise the preparation of finished plans and specifications for city departments as required.
- Prepare estimates, review plans and specifications, and make recommendations for alterations to city projects.
- Act as a coordinator and liaison with outside agencies on projects involving grants.
- Serve as engineer in charge of construction work done by city forces or by private contractors working on city projects.
- Prepare and check payment estimates, change orders, notices of completion, and final reports, and make material and construction reports.
- Coordinate joint, state, county, or state-city construction projects.
- Make cost estimates for highly controversial and complex projects.
- Design and prepare contract plans and specifications for small and medium-sized buildings and for alterations and additions to existing buildings and facilities.
- Handle public requests and complaints of a sensitive nature related to engineering.
- Handle a variety of public contact situations, making personal appearances to explain and interpret agency programs.
- Coordinate and participate in the preparation of departmental budgets that require engineering services.
- Coordinate with private contractors on projects that affect city facilities or infrastructures.
- Perform site inspections of all construction activity, including deep injection wells, extraction systems, and pump stations.
- Perform plan reviews of deep injection wells, extraction systems, and pump stations.
- Provide project coordination with all stakeholders, including developers, subcontractors, project managers, and city staff.
- Act as a consultant for utility coordination for water main, sewer, stormwater, and water plant.
- Attend monthly groundwater coordination meetings with developers and city contractors.
- Attend bi-weekly progress meetings.
- Provide information and documents as requested.
- Complete daily activity logs.
- Prepare correspondence as needed.
- Bachelor's degree with major coursework in civil engineering.
- Five years of experience in progressively responsible professional civil engineering work.
- Two years of supervisory engineering experience.
- Current, valid registration as a professional engineer by the State of Florida at time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
- Experience in a variety of disciplines, such as traffic, transportation, water, and sewer, and state and local standards.
