Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at the City of Miami Beach, FL. As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations in the City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed structural and building plan reviews, including loads analysis, computation of structural capacities, layout, material, construction methods, general design, and specifications.
  • Review roofing permits, analyzing and reviewing the engineering, and evaluating the required documentation.
  • Approve or reject plans, blueprints, specifications, and materials lists based on compliance with applicable building regulations and good building construction practices.
  • Recommend methods, materials, equipment, and alterations to assist in compliance with accepted standards.
  • Administer the City's Board Up program, which includes coordination with contractors and the inspection of failed or suspected soon-to-fail or fire-damaged buildings.
  • Request vacation and/or demolition of any building or structure declared unsafe.
  • Interpret and explain regulations and standards and disseminate technical advice to interested parties, including subordinates, other sections, and agencies, and the public.
  • Conduct or assign emergency technical field inspections as needed and enforce FEMA regulations, as they relate to the structural discipline.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints.
  • Testify in court and before related boards, obtain documentation, and prepare testimony.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, records, and correspondence concerning building enforcement and inspection activities.
  • Assign tasks to personnel and conduct staff meetings.
  • Participate in the administration of collective bargaining agreements, Civil Service Rules, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform related work as required.
Requirements
  • Certification as a Structural Plans Examiner by the Board of Rules and Appeals.
  • Florida licensed Professional Engineer with a license obtained by examination under the structural discipline and practiced as a Structural Engineer within the jurisdiction of the Miami-Dade Code for a period of five (5) years.
  • License in good standing with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation with no pending complaints.
