Job Summary

The City of Miami Beach, FL is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Plumbing Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our Building Services Department, you will be responsible for enforcing compliance with applicable national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations related to plumbing installations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and approve or disapprove plumbing installation plans, blueprints, specifications, and materials lists to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and good building practices.
  • Assign and investigate reported and unreported hazards, possible safety problems, and violations of code.
  • Issue permits and certifications dependent upon compliance with standards and assist applicants in completing necessary forms.
  • Recommend methods, materials, equipment, and alterations to assist in compliance with accepted standards.
  • Compute and collect fees for plumbing permits and certifications.
  • Determine acceptability of qualifications of plumbing contractors.
  • Testify in court and before related boards; obtain documentation; and prepare testimony.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, records, and correspondence concerning plumbing enforcement and inspection activities.
  • Conduct technical field inspections of buildings, equipment, and installations as needed.
Requirements
  • Certification by the Board of Rules and Appeals.
  • Meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Possess a current Master Plumber license issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board and have five (5) years of field experience under that certification.
    • Possess a current State Certified Plumber Contractor license issued by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board and have five (5) years of field experience under that certification.
    • Possess a current Florida Professional Engineer license having obtained the license pursuant to examination in the mechanical discipline and have five (5) years of experience under that license.
    • Possess a current Florida Professional Engineer license and have ten (10) years of experience under that license.
    • Possess a current Broward County Master Plumber license with five (5) years of field experience under that license and have applied for and received license reciprocity with Miami-Dade County.
    • Possess or Obtains Provision Plumbing Inspector and Plans Examiner certification from the Florida Board of Code Administrators and Inspectors within ninety (90) days of appointment if required.
    • Possess or Achieves Standard Plumbing Inspector and Plans Examiner certification from the said board within twelve (12) months of appointment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment.
  • Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and reaching.
  • Must have the physical ability to bend, crawl, and climb over construction sites and within buildings.
  • Drive an automobile.
  • Perform on-site inspections at locations which may not be accessible to the physically handicapped.
