Key Responsibilities
  • Directs and supervises the enforcement of the Florida Building Code, City of North Miami Code of Ordinances, and other related regulations.
  • Facilitates the permitting process for alterations, new work, and repairs for buildings and other structures.
  • Confers with and advises Development Services Department staff on technical and administrative problems related to the Florida Building Code and other applicable regulations.
  • Confers with the Development Services Department Director on questions of departmental policy related to the Florida Building Code and other applicable regulations.
  • Confers or corresponds with contractors, design professionals, developers, and property owners regarding the Florida Building Code, City's Code of Ordinance, County's Code of Ordinance, and other related regulations.
  • Investigates permit application and permit inspection complaints.
  • Enforces the Florida Building Code, City's Code of North Miami Code of Ordinance, Miami-Dade County Code of Ordinance, State laws, Federal laws, and other related regulations.
  • Represents the City at Special Magistrate Hearing and Unsafe Structures Board.
  • Makes recommendations for changes in City's ordinances and other regulations relative to the Florida Building Code, State law, and Federal law.
  • Coordinates activities relating to the Florida Building Code with private, public agencies, and other City departments.
  • Issues Stop Work and Unsafe orders.
  • Coordinates compliance date for violations relating to the Florida Building Code, City's Ordinances, and other regulations.
  • Issues Temporary Certificates of Occupancy, Certificates of Occupancy, Temporary Certificates of Completion, and Certificate of Completion.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Building Official.
  • Valid certification/license from the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board or by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals as a Building Official or Building Code Administrator under the provisions of Florida Statues Chapter 468.
  • Licensed as a professional engineer, registered architect, or certified general contractor in the State of Florida with no less than five (5) years under that license.
  • Possession of valid Florida driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification for the Building Code Administrator issued by the State of Florida - Department of Business & Professional Regulation Board of Building Code Administrators.
  • Ten (10) years of work experience with five (5) of those years being in a supervisory capacity.
  • Certification as a Building Official by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals.
