Platform Infrastructure Specialist
The Platform Infrastructure team is dedicated to developing and sustaining a self-service internal development framework that empowers MongoDB engineering teams to consistently deploy and manage their own production services and products.

We collaborate with various engineering teams throughout the organization to comprehend their infrastructure needs and development processes, create widely applicable self-service platform services and tools, continuously monitor the utilization of platform services, and seek opportunities to enhance developer efficiency through automation and education.

We are passionate about open source and actively utilize a variety of open source tools in our technology stack, contributing to upstream projects whenever feasible.

Some of the technologies we frequently employ include Go, AWS, Kubernetes, Crossplane, Terraform, Helm, Drone, Prometheus, and Grafana.

However, technology alone is insufficient without a remarkable team of engineers committed to delivering high-quality work and collaborating to tackle intricate distributed computing and platform engineering challenges.


Your Role:
  • Pragmatic, detail-oriented, self-driven, and values collaboration.
  • Adopts a software-centric approach to problem-solving and consistently utilizes version control systems to track progress.
  • Knowledgeable in software engineering principles, including dependency injection, composition, and test-driven development.
  • Familiar with standard authentication protocols (e.g., OAuth).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with engineering teams across MongoDB to identify gaps and limitations in current development workflows and ascertain new infrastructure and platform needs.
  • Design self-service platform services and developer tools that prioritize reliability, usability, and appropriate abstraction from cloud infrastructure.
  • Regularly write and review automation, configuration management, and application code.
  • Author and review functional specifications and scoping documents for significant platform projects and services.
  • Oversee and manage a substantial portion of the internal development platform that supports MongoDB.
  • Collaborate with a distributed team that frequently interacts with remote engineers across various time zones.

Success Metrics:

Within three months, you will have gained familiarity with much of our environment and will be able to articulate key components of our platform effectively.

By six months, you will have successfully investigated, scoped, executed, and documented a medium to large-sized platform project.

In a year, you will have leveraged your in-depth knowledge of our software and infrastructure to promote platform adoption across the organization.

You will also be recognized as a subject matter expert in at least one aspect of our platform and will have made significant contributions to our codebase that enhance the quality, reliability, and maintainability of our systems.
