POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general oversight of the Parks, Recreation & Aquatics Director, this role is tasked with aiding in the execution and management of activities, programs, personnel, and special events at the Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Programs Supervisor will assume a leadership position, providing guidance to Aquatics Leader 2, Aquatics Leader 1, and lifeguard/swim instructor roles. Flexibility is essential, as meetings with supervisory staff may be required. Work hours will vary, including evenings and weekends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead swim lessons as designated.
  • Assist in the coordination of special projects and programs with staff and community partners.
  • Oversee activities at the Aquatic Center.
  • Support the leadership of part-time staff and program participants.
  • Participate in all required staff meetings.
  • Facilitate communication between participants and program supervisors.
  • Prepare necessary documentation.
  • Handle cashier and front desk reception duties.
  • Address public inquiries regarding programs and facilities.
  • Monitor the upkeep of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform minor maintenance and custodial tasks.
  • Manage facility opening and closing duties.
  • Utilize REC1 software for processing registrations and transactions.
  • Meet regularly with program supervisors.
  • Assist in conducting staff meetings.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment.
  • Oversee inventory control of first aid, janitorial supplies, and office equipment.
  • Mentor new lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Assist in staff evaluations.
  • Support in-service training sessions.
  • Fulfill duties as a swim instructor.
  • Act as a lead lifeguard.
  • Conduct and document pool chemical testing.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
Required Qualifications:
  • At least four years of relevant experience.
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, Blood-Borne Pathogens, AED, and Lifeguard Training.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • WSI or Swim America Certification.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification.
  • AFO or CPO certification.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of aquatic programs and activities suitable for toddlers, youth, and teens.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse range of program participants and community members.
  • Calm and effective response to emergency situations.
  • Supervise the maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Independently initiate and complete work tasks.
  • Work effectively with participants and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills for verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of conflict-resolution strategies.
  • Explain and enforce facility guidelines and policies.
  • Solid background in aquatic programs and swimming techniques.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with participants and staff.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to uniform requirements.
  • Strong interest in working with young children.
  • Respond accurately to the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Understand and teach swimming skills across all levels of the learn-to-swim program.
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures.
  • Maintain all required certifications.
  • Meet necessary swimming skills for teaching swim lessons.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Environment:
  • Indoor work environment.
  • May involve high heat and humidity.
  • Extended periods of standing on pool decks.
  • Extended periods in a pool water environment.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist children.
  • Effective hearing and speaking for communication.
  • Visual monitoring of participants.
  • Dexterity for operating small tools.
  • Focus on tasks for extended periods.
  • Reaching and moderate lifting.
