Position Overview

Baylor Scott & White Health - Central Texas is seeking an experienced AGACNP to enhance their inpatient Thoracic Department.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Thoracic Nurse Practitioner - Non-Operative is a licensed and certified healthcare professional who provides direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is recognized as an independent billing provider within the healthcare system. The Advanced Practice Provider delivers medical care in accordance with the scope of practice as defined by the supervising physician. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting rounds and consultations
  • Monitoring and managing ECMO and intubation
  • Collaborating with surgical teams to establish optimal care plans
  • Managing medication therapies

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates the physical and mental health of patients through comprehensive examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient needs.
  • Prescribes and recommends medical therapies and treatments in line with established policies, ensuring efficacy and safety.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive treatment plans based on patient assessments and evidence-based practices, collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams as necessary.
  • Provides counseling to patients and families regarding health management, medication, nutrition, and wellness.
  • Maintains detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes, initiating referrals when necessary.
  • Offers specialized consultation services related to the provider's expertise.
  • Manages patients in various healthcare settings beyond primary clinics.
  • Performs procedures within the scope of practice as delegated by the supervising physician.
  • Conducts follow-ups with patients pre- and post-operatively, and may provide care in emergency settings.
  • May be required to fulfill patient care duties beyond the standard schedule based on departmental needs.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Comprehensive knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of human health conditions.
  • Understanding of methods and procedures for treating physical and mental health issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and teams.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective patient treatment plans.
  • Skill in counseling patients regarding medical and psychological conditions.
  • Competence in interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Valid Texas RN licensure or compact privilege, along with Texas APRN certification.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in Texas.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the relevant patient population.
