ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Tin Building by Jean-Georges is an expansive food emporium situated within one of New York's most iconic landmarks. The TIN Building features multiple distinctive venues: Several full-service restaurants, fast casual, and counter dining outlets, as well as 10,000 square feet of retail space offering private label products, grab-and-go options, grocery items, and more. To support this substantial operation, the Marketplace includes a large commissary kitchen and bakery, along with an exhibition kitchen that will provide media opportunities.

The Howard Hughes Corporation, a nationally recognized real estate firm overseeing the redevelopment of New York City's Seaport District, envisions transforming the property into a hub for attracting locals and visitors alike with a unique, year-round blend of entertainment, dining, and retail offerings. The centerpiece of the Seaport District's revitalization is an entirely reimagined historic TIN Building, featuring a one-of-a-kind Marketplace and entertainment venue operated by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seafood Associate plays a vital role in the Central Market experience at the Tin Building, responsible for fish butchery, preparing and selling products to customers, and delivering exceptional customer service. This position ensures a positive shopping experience and educates customers with in-depth product knowledge. The Seafood Associate guarantees that the department is well-stocked, the display case is attractive and full, and that products are consistently fresh.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform tasks including but not limited to: raw materials intake and food handling, filleting and preparation of products, completing setup and breakdown duties including counter displays, and providing outstanding counter experiences for guests.
  • Responsible for presenting products according to brand standards and ensuring freshness.
  • Manage guest interactions, weighing, packaging, and labeling fish.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for all seafood-related inquiries, maintaining strong product knowledge and proactively assisting guests.
  • Stock, rotate, merchandise, and quality check products in accordance with department procedures, FIFO, and health regulations.
  • Support service and tasks of all other counters as needed.
  • Ensure the department operates in compliance with Tin Building's standards.
  • Maintain and organize back and storage areas according to departmental standards.
  • Communicate department needs, adjustments, and issues promptly and efficiently to management.
  • Participate in scheduled inventory procedures or spot inventory audits.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in compliance with departmental, federal, and state regulations.
  • Uphold all food safety and sanitation standards, laws, and regulations; adhere to all Department of Weights and Measures regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the department as needed, including sweeping, dusting, and garbage disposal.
  • Follow all Company Policies and Procedures and SOPs, including quality, health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a Fishmonger and/or Seafood Associate role or relevant experience.
  • Strong knife skills and proficiency in using knives and utensils for product preparation.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to provide first-class hospitality to customers.
  • Professional demeanor and polished appearance.
  • Ability to remain organized in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Must be a team player and able to collaborate positively.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Passionate, entrepreneurial, and dedicated to success.
  • Food Handlers license preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully, consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 10 – 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent movement on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly moving from place to place within the work area and property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Regularly climbing steps.

The base pay range for this position is $24.00 per hour. The specific pay for an employee in this job classification depends on various factors, including prior employment history, job-related knowledge, qualifications, and skills.
