The Tin Building by Jean-Georges is an expansive culinary marketplace located within one of New York's iconic landmarks. This venue boasts several distinct dining options, including full-service restaurants and quick-service counters, complemented by a retail space offering a variety of products. To facilitate this extensive operation, the Marketplace is equipped with a large commissary kitchen and a bakery, as well as an exhibition kitchen designed for media opportunities.

The Howard Hughes Corporation, a nationally recognized real estate firm, is revitalizing the Seaport District to attract both locals and tourists with a unique blend of entertainment, dining, and retail experiences. The centerpiece of this transformation is the reimagined historic Tin Building, featuring a distinctive marketplace and entertainment venue curated by the acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seafood Associate plays a vital role in enhancing the Central Market experience at the Tin Building. This position involves fish preparation, customer service, and product sales, ensuring a top-notch shopping experience while educating customers about various seafood offerings. The Seafood Associate is responsible for maintaining an appealing display, ensuring freshness, and keeping the department well-stocked.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute tasks including raw material intake, food handling, fish filleting, and preparation, as well as setting up and breaking down counter displays to provide excellent customer experiences.
  • Ensure product freshness and adherence to brand standards in displays.
  • Manage guest interactions, including weighing, packaging, and labeling seafood products.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for seafood inquiries, assisting guests proactively.
  • Stock, rotate, merchandise, and conduct quality checks on products following department protocols and health regulations.
  • Support other counters as needed and maintain operational standards.
  • Organize back and storage areas in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding departmental needs and issues.
  • Participate in inventory audits and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards, as well as regulations.
  • Perform general cleanliness tasks as required.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety standards.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a seafood-related role or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knife skills and proficiency in using utensils for product preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Capability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with a positive collaborative attitude.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Passion for the culinary field and dedication to success.
  • Food Handler's license is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions safely and effectively in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing between 10 to 30 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent movement within the work area, including bending, lifting, and reaching.
  • Regular climbing of steps as part of job duties.

The base pay range for this position is $24.00 per hour. Compensation is determined based on various factors, including prior experience and qualifications.
