ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Tin Building by Jean-Georges serves as a vibrant food marketplace within one of New York's iconic landmarks. This expansive venue includes multiple dining options: full-service restaurants, fast-casual eateries, and retail spaces offering a diverse range of products. To facilitate this large-scale operation, the Marketplace features a comprehensive commissary kitchen and bakery, alongside an exhibition kitchen designed for media engagement.
The Howard Hughes Corporation, a leading real estate firm, is revitalizing the Seaport District to attract both locals and tourists with a unique blend of entertainment, dining, and retail experiences. The centerpiece of this transformation is the reimagined historic Tin Building, which boasts a distinctive marketplace and entertainment venue managed by the renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Seafood Associate plays a vital role in enhancing the Central Market experience at the Tin Building. This position involves fish preparation, product sales, and delivering exemplary customer service. The Seafood Associate is responsible for ensuring a positive shopping experience and educating customers with in-depth product knowledge. This role also includes maintaining an attractive and well-stocked display case, ensuring that all products are fresh.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform various tasks including raw materials intake, food handling, filleting, and preparation of seafood products, along with setting up and breaking down counter displays.
- Ensure product freshness and display items according to brand standards.
- Manage guest interactions by weighing, packaging, and labeling seafood products.
- Act as a knowledgeable resource for seafood-related inquiries, providing proactive assistance to guests.
- Stock, rotate, merchandise, and quality-check products in accordance with department procedures and health regulations.
- Support service and operations of other counters as necessary.
- Maintain compliance with the Tin Building's operational standards.
- Organize back and storage areas to meet departmental standards.
- Communicate departmental needs and issues effectively to management.
- Participate in scheduled inventory audits and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Perform general cleanliness tasks including sweeping and garbage disposal as needed.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety standards.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a seafood-related role or relevant experience.
- Strong knife skills and proficiency in using knives and utensils for product preparation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to provide first-class hospitality to customers.
- Professional demeanor and polished appearance.
- Capacity to remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented with a positive collaborative attitude.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Passion for the culinary arts and dedication to success.
- Food Handler's license preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform essential job functions safely and effectively.
- Regular, punctual attendance is required.
- Capability to lift and carry items weighing between 10 and 30 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent movement within the work area, including bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Regular climbing of steps as part of job duties.
The base pay range for this position is $24.00 per hour. Compensation will be determined based on various factors including prior experience and skills.
