ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Tin Building by Jean-Georges is an expansive food marketplace located within one of New York's most iconic landmarks. The TIN Building features a variety of unique venues: several full-service restaurants, fast-casual dining, and counter service options, as well as 10,000 square feet of retail space offering private label products, grab-and-go items, groceries, and more. To support this significant operation, the Marketplace includes a large commissary kitchen and bakery, along with an exhibition kitchen that will provide media opportunities.

The Howard Hughes Corporation, a nationally recognized real estate firm managing the redevelopment of New York City's Seaport District, envisions transforming the property into a vibrant hub for locals and visitors alike, featuring a unique, year-round blend of entertainment, dining, and retail offerings. The centerpiece of the Seaport District's revitalization is the entirely reimagined historic TIN Building, showcasing a one-of-a-kind Marketplace and entertainment venue operated by the acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seafood Associate plays a vital role in the Central Market experience at the Tin Building, responsible for fish preparation, product sales, and delivering exceptional customer service to guests. This position ensures a positive shopping experience while educating customers with in-depth product knowledge. The Seafood Associate maintains a well-stocked department, ensuring that display cases are attractive and products are consistently fresh.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform various tasks including raw materials intake, food handling, fish filleting, and preparation, along with setting up and breaking down counter displays to provide outstanding guest experiences.
  • Ensure products are displayed according to brand standards and are always fresh.
  • Manage guest interactions by weighing, packaging, and labeling fish products.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for all seafood-related inquiries, maintaining strong product knowledge and proactively assisting guests.
  • Stock, rotate, merchandise, and quality-check products in accordance with department procedures and health regulations.
  • Support service and tasks across all counters as necessary.
  • Ensure departmental operations align with the standards of the Tin Building.
  • Organize and maintain back and storage areas according to departmental standards.
  • Communicate departmental needs and issues promptly to management.
  • Participate in scheduled inventory procedures and audits.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in compliance with all regulations.
  • Uphold food safety and sanitation standards, adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the department, including sweeping and garbage disposal as needed.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to quality, health, safety, and sanitation.
  • Perform additional duties as required or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Fishmonger or Seafood Associate role or relevant experience.
  • Strong knife skills and proficiency in using knives and utensils for product preparation.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to provide first-class hospitality to customers.
  • Professional demeanor and polished appearance.
  • Capability to remain organized in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Team player with a positive collaborative attitude.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Passionate, entrepreneurial spirit dedicated to success.
  • Food Handler's license preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully, adhering to federal, state, and local standards.
  • Regular, punctual attendance consistent with all regulations.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 10 to 30 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent movement within the work area, including bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching.

The base pay range for this position is $24.00 per hour. The specific pay for an employee in this role depends on various factors, including prior employment history, job-related knowledge, qualifications, and skills.
