About the Role

UMass Amherst is seeking an experienced and visionary Executive Creative Director to lead our marketing and communications efforts. As a key member of the MarCom leadership team, you will be responsible for translating marketing strategies into compelling creative concepts and expressions that bring the UMass brand to life.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the Creative Team: Manage a team of designers, writers, editors, video producers, and photographers to ensure high-quality output across all platforms.
  2. Develop Strategic Vision: Provide a clear and compelling vision for the brand direction, guiding the planning, execution, and optimization of brand initiatives and campaigns.
  3. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with peers on the MarCom leadership team and University Relations to reinvigorate and execute a comprehensive communication and marketing brand strategy for the campus.
  4. Build and Maintain Relationships: Develop and maintain strong working relationships across the campus, guiding and supporting schools, colleges, and campus units on brand strategies, solutions, and executions.
  5. Manage External Partners: Select and manage the work of outside agency partners and other suppliers, ensuring all creative work is aligned with brand strategies and guidelines.
  6. Ensure Brand Consistency: Ensure consistent and unified brand identity across all deliverables and platforms/channels, and ensure all internal and external communications are consistent with the brand's voice, tone, and visual identity.
  7. Measure and Report: Measure the effectiveness of brand initiatives and campaigns, and provide regular reports and insights to senior leadership to inform brand strategy and creative direction.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's degree.
  2. Experience: A minimum of 10 years' experience in design, brand development, and multimedia leadership.
  3. Leadership Skills: Experience leading large and diverse creative teams in a complex organization, with demonstrated ability in advancing organizational goals.
  4. Collaboration: Experience working in an iterative and collaborative environment, directing alongside marketing leaders, creative designers, and concept developers.
  5. Creative Skills: Extensive hands-on experience in conceptual storytelling, with proven ability to concept, write, and direct creative for full marketing campaigns and specific marketing materials.
  6. Client Service: Exceptional client service skills.
  7. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills and ability to apply them to creative work.
  8. Team Leadership: Achievement in building, mentoring, and leading a high-performing team of creatives.
  9. Aesthetic Sense: High level of aesthetic sense with a critical eye and sharp attention to detail.
  10. Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  11. Marketing Trends: Deep understanding and application of marketing trends and modern marketing technology.
