The Department of Political Science at InsideHigherEd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Administration and Finance to serve in a senior leadership role. This position will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the department's administrative and financial functions.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision for all administrative and financial functions to ensure smooth departmental operations.
- Financial Management: Provide overall management and supervision of administrative staff, including recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation.
- Executive Support: Provide confidential, executive-level support to the Chair, including counseling on the current and projected financial status of the department.
- Faculty Support: Manage the tenure track and non-tenure track faculty search and hiring process, including the preparation of faculty tenure and mini-tenure, promotion in APWS, and PMYR cases.
- Operational Planning: Develop effective and efficient online tracking systems and documentation to provide proactive and timely reports for departmental planning purposes.
- Resource Management: Determine instructional resource needs and allocations that meet curricular demands, including managing teaching assignments and contracts for faculty, lecturers, and graduate teaching assistants.
- Special Projects: Collaborate with the Chair on special projects, including department strategic planning, and proactively support departmental planning, schedules, and oversees facilities projects.
- Communication: Oversee all communication outlets in the department, including website, newsletters, reports, social media pages/sites, etc.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree with five years of managerial and/or project management work experience, or Master's Degree with three years of managerial and/or project management work experience.
- Skills: Excellent managerial, leadership, negotiation, and project management skills, with the ability to manage crisis or changing situations effectively.
- Experience: Experience working in a higher education environment, with experience in staff supervision and leadership, and understanding of academic department administration.
