Research Professional

Seeking a highly motivated Research Professional to join our team at the University of Georgia. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory, greenhouse, and field work related to wild and cultivated peanuts. This is a full-time position that requires a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in the field.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct field disease evaluation and harvest in plots over 5 acres with single plant genotypes, mini-rows, and rows.
• Select seeds for the following planting season based on traits such as productivity, seed size, and drought tolerance.
• Perform interspecific crosses, pollen viability analyses, and identify hybrid plants by phenotypic analyses.
• Extract DNA and quantify, leading bioassays setup, and pathogenicity evaluation.
• Oversee seed sorting, shelling, weighing, and maintaining seed inventory.
• Evaluate harvested seed traits for weight, color, shape, and reticulation.
• Organize and keep control of seed inventory.
• Maintain the greenhouse, including plant care, organization, and cleanliness.
• Lead efforts in finding new procedures and technologies to improve the efficiency of the peanut breeding program.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Good organization skills.
• Knowledge of basic plant life cycle and genetics.
• Knowledge of basic molecular biology laboratory techniques.
• Ability to spend extended hours in the field, including weekends during peak seasons.
• Ability to drive for up to eight hours to perform job duties in different parts of the state/country.
